We are delighted to announce the 2025 Australian Acid and Metalliferous Drainage Workshop will take place in Brisbane in October 2025.
Date: 19-21 October 2025
Short Course: 19 October, UQ Brisbane City
AMD Workshop: 20 & 21 October, Customs House
The Australian Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD) Workshop, is a triennial forum in Australia dedicated to sharing fundamental knowledge on this global water quality issue. The Workshop and short course provide excellent opportunities to network with resarchers and practitioners on the causes, management and amelioration of the impacts of AMD and Acid Sulfate Soils.
The Workshop is hosted by the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) at The University of Queensland and the Cooperative Research Centre for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRC-TiME).
Presentations
With the aim of continuous improvement, the Organising Committee is updating the format of this event to enhance its relevance to the mining sector. We are seeking expressions of interest for presentations from mining companies and the AMD community on evidence-based AMD specific case studies from sites across the world that will serve to enhance the industry's understanding and management of this growing issue. Case studies that address the topics of source control in waste management, reprocessing of waste to reduce AMD risk, management of pit Lakes to maximise water quality outcomes, and advances in techniques to characterise and minimise AMD risk will be welcomed.
An expression of interest only requires the proposed title of the Abstract and 5-10 dot points on the data to be presented, please email your EOI to Chair of the AMD Workshop Professor Mansour Edraki (m.edraki@uq.edu.au).
Workshop planners are strongly focussed on contributions that advance knowledge and practical improvements for decreasing the impacts of AMD at legacy and operating mine sites across the globe. Abstract titles and content that fulfils this focus will be considered. Please note that several of the limited presentation slots will be by invite from the Organising Committee. Once the program has been notionally formulated, Abstracts only will be requested from the accepted contributors. Full papers are not required.
